Overview

Hiking in Aigüestortes National Park are strongly recomended.
The park, created in 1955, is a wild mountain region in the Pyrenees, with peaks rising 9000 feet above sea level and nearly 200 lakes, many of them of glacial origin. The park’s name in Spanish is Aigüestortes, freely translated as “the winding streams” due to how the rivers flow.
The park contains four major vegetation zones: lower mountain, upper mountain, subalpine and alpine. The fauna includes Pyrenean Chamois, Marmot, Ermine, Roe Deer. It also has numerous birds such as the Black Woodpecker, common Crossbill, Lammergeier and Golden Eagle.
